Lesson 4 • Leadership
Responsible Use Boundaries
Not every use case is appropriate—even if it is technically possible. Boundaries protect people and protect trust.
Key concepts
- Set 'never do' rules before choosing tools.
- Avoid automated decisions about people’s eligibility, risk, or behavior.
- Document boundaries and communicate them clearly.
Practice Exercise
Draft one sentence that begins with: “Our organization will not use AI to…”
Template (copy/paste)
ROLE: You are my AI assistant. TASK: Help me write 10 strong 'we will not' statements for AI use. CONTEXT: Nonprofit/community organization. OUTPUT: 10 statements + 2 that are too vague (and fix them). CONSTRAINTS: No surveillance, no scoring people, no hidden profiling.
Ethics & accuracy: verify important facts, avoid sharing sensitive personal data, and be transparent when AI helped draft content.
